On a beautiful July day in Provence, France our own Sarah Endline, Mastermind and Chief Rioter, married her French beau, Jean-Luc! We'll share more photos soon, but here's a quick taste of their lavendar-filled wedding day!
It's time to Rock the Art Vote! sweetriot supports emerging artists by featuring their work on our packaging, and we love to involve YOU in the process! We need the help of our Riot Community to choose a new artist to feature on our Cacao Nib Tins. CLICK HERE to cast your vote and be sure to share with your art-loving friends!
Hello, my name is Anny Liu and I'm very excited to be a part of the sweetriot team! I was born in Chengdu China, but I was raised for most of my life in Orlando, Florida. Though I loved the sunshine state, I have to say my favorite parts of living in NYC now are learning about different cultures, the convenience and all the opportunities to try new things! I like all kinds of music sans country, but my favorite artist would have to be Florence and the Machine. Like many that move to NYC, I've always been a huge fan of music, possibly a result of the 14 years of piano I've practiced. I also really love to swim (my favorite pool game is marco polo!), but one of the most unique things about me right now is probably that when I run, for some reason I always find myself holding my thumbs up! When at Sweetriot, you can probably find me eating my favorite Quirky Quinoa Crunchy bar, though the Coconut bar comes close in second. I hope I've helped you get to know me a little more, riot on!
Our next intern we want to introduce you to is Shadiyat! Here's a little bit about who she is and what she brings to our team!
I'm from Atlanta, Georgia. My favorite thing about NYC is the free concerts and great restaurants. I love different kinds of music and most of it is pretty calming. My favorite artists in no specific order are Justin Nozuka and Childish Gambino. My favorite Sweetriot product is the Kickin' Coconut RiotBar but the 70% Nibs with espresso are a close second. Interesting facts... I took Latin for 6 years, I only like strawberry ice cream with real strawberries, anything else is just rude, and I'm really good at guessing song names within the first couple seconds (on a good day, I can name the album too).
Next up in our Summer Intern intro's is Candice, who might be the most fashionable girl we know. Read a bit about her, in her own words!
My name is Candice Yan, a NYU graduate student from China. I have been in NYC for less than 1 year and already fall in love with it the first day I got here. In NYC, everyone is from elsewhere so you never feel alone or isolated. In this city of art, you have the chance to experience everything as long as you have the gut to imagine. I love jazz and soul music, so my favorite singers are Adele and Rebecca Ferguson. My favorite sweetriot product is 70% Dark Chocolate with Quirky Quinoa.
Three interesting facts about Candice:
1. People always mistake me for Japanese and will speak Japanese to me on the street.
2. Different from the quiet appearance, I love adventures and excitement.
3. I am Chinese, but I took western literature as my major in college.
This summer sweetriot is excited to welcome several interns to our Riot Room in NYC! We love how unique our interns are and we want to give you a little introduction to each of them. We are starting today with a little bit about Marion, in her own adorable words!
My name is Marion, and I will be the French rioter during 2 months! My optimism and my joy of living make me a funny girl. My French accent and my mistakes make people laugh.
Visiting NYC was my dream and now my dream comes true. Every morning I wake up, take the subway from Brooklyn to Manhattan and listen to some American RnB like Mary J. Blige while admiring the landscape on the Williamsburg Bridge.
I really enjoy coming to work every morning into a warm and relaxed atmosphere. And I absolutely fall in love with the delicious coconut bar! I could eat this all the day… And that’s what I do.
Sweet News! sweetriot and Maria Sharapova founder of Sugarpova team up to deliver you yummy snacks and healthy dark chocolate NOW AVAILABLE AT THE FRESH MARKET! If you're in your local Fresh Market, please send us a picture of our riotBars (firstname.lastname@example.org). We always love hearing from our Rioters! Riot on!
Our riotBars have fancy new packaging, complete with beautiful new artwork by the amazing Sarah Liggett. I was able to ask Sarah a few questions about her life, art, and inspiration. Here is what she had to say!
Q: Music is a very important part of life in the Riot Room. What tunes are you currently spinning? A: I love music and walk with my iPod most days. I love a wide variety of music. I like rhythm when I walk! My favorite song, "Happy", [is] a musical affirmation.
Q: What are some social causes you care about? A: I worked for the Oregon Environmental Council as a volunteer for almost two years and I support a clean environment - water, air, the oceans, food. It was one of the reasons I was attracted to sweetriot.
Q: What advice do you have for others who want to tap in to their own creativity? A: Advice is a tricky thing. Learn the most on the subjects you find yourself interested in and work on it... Make the time. Art is like anything--the more you practice it, the better you get. I will always be a student.
Q: What does your process usually look like? Do you plan things out or do you work spur of the moment? A: My artistic process is to sit in front of a piece of paper (notebook, scrap of napkin, or anything) when I have an idea and sketch it for later reference. I develop drawings from sketches I have on file. I feel like I've been drawing most of my life--as a hobby, as a pastime, as a freelance career--it's almost like therapy for me or meditation.
Q: Travelling and experiencing different cultures is near and dear to our sweetriot team. Do you have a favorite place that you've travelled? A: I've done a lot of traveling. I lived in Taiwan for two years and I've been to several countries in Europe over the years, so I've been very fortunate to have seen part of the world and several states in this country as well. Italy was one of my favorite places. People are very happy to show you where they live and what it means to them. Travelling was a favorite experience for me - but coming home was a part of that experience.
Q: Who are your favorite artists? A: I appreciate realism in art, but I love impressionism and abstract art as well. One of my favorite artists is Vincent Van Gogh, in part because of his use of color. The artists that sweetriot has featured over the years are wonderful and unique. The colors are what pull me in.
Q: Do you have a favorite piece that you've done? Or do you love them all equally? :-) A: I do like some pieces I've done more than others. When I'm working, I usually like what I'm working on at the time the most- that's where my focus is; then when it's done, I go on to the next piece.
Q: What inspires your art? A: I read extensively and take photographs of the world around me, but my sister is my biggest inspiration. She was diagnosed with Stage Four lung cancer a year and a half ago and is now stable and doing well, I'm thankful to say. While recovering from radiation treatment she completed her third book ("The Blue Between", see patricialittle.com) - she's amazing!
Q: What has traditionally been your favorite sweet treat? A: Traditionally I like dessert, preferably chocolate, but I need to keep it within limits - quality not quantity. I was trying to wean myself off of just milk chocolate, which I love... and it's working! I found the perfect solution - a bite of a riotBar with coffee. Yum! sweetriot has so much dark chocolate to choose from, and it's organic and Fair Trade. I tell everyone about it! Actually, the first riotBar I attempted to buy at Whole foods was a gift - when I told the checker I was going to be the featured artist in the near future, he bought it for me!
