As I’m sure our Rioters have noticed, sweetriot is pretty crazy about cacao, but our coffee addiction is definitely a close second. From dark roasts to pumpkin spice lattes, we need our caffeine to get us through the day. That being said, we care a whole lot about where our coffee comes from, and we hold it to the same standards we do our chocolate!
Have you ever considered where your coffee started out? Farmers from countries all over the world harvest coffee beans and sell them to importers. But sometimes these farmers are tricked into selling their beans to middlemen for much less than they’re worth. By buying fair trade coffee, you’re supporting hardworking farmers, ensuring they get the money they deserve. Fair trade gives farmers an honest price for their harvest and connects them directly with importers. As a result, farmers receive higher incomes and can properly maintain their land to produce quality product.
In celebration of Fair Trade Month, sweetriot is asking our Rioters to buy fair trade products. That might mean walking the extra block to reach a fair trade coffee shop in the morning, but we promise the trek is worthwhile. Check out fairtradeusa.org for a list of fair trade coffee companies and products, because equitable coffee is more joyful, more delicious, and filled with more good vibes!

It was Carolyn's birthday last week and she wanted to go to Sugar Bar. I hadn't been and was willing to head to the Upper West Side for the occassion. (To Be Honest, I normally won't go North of 14 street and just hang out in my little Village all of the time.) :)
I actually keep calling it Sugar Rush because I felt like I had one the entire time! Not from sweet things but from the sweet music inside. It was open Mike night and the performers were simply incredible. Sugar Bar is owned by Ashford and Simpson, notable songwriters for many including Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. Happy Birthday, Carolyn!
We are very excited to be in NY Magazine this month where they called us 'Better than Vitamins.' (Clare seen modeling w/ magazine)! They created a 'Best Bets' chocolate section and we were one of the select few. See all the latest sweetriot news here.
Right after the winds of Fancy Food and Sundance and in the middle of Fashion Week, The NY Gift Show was bustling at the Javits Center. You can find just about anything at the Gift Fair from handmade international items to specialty food or home furnishings. After all of the shows and events, the rioters were feeling a little silly and even had a sign holding competition! We were happy to see our rioting friends from Body Factory in LA too! If you haven't been, it's worth a visit.
There's never a dull moment at sweetriot. The team headed to the World Headquarters of Time Warner & Fortune Magazine this past Friday for the Fortune Small Business Finals. We made our final pitch and were filmed by CNN while doing it. Cool, huh?
We met the great teams from far away places like Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Athens, Georgia too. We'll find out in October the news, and we'll keep you updated. We're just excited to make it this far!
My last stop on my way home from Turkey and Cyprus was London. I love that city! I spoke about sweetriot to some great AIESEC alumni there and stopped by the new Whole Foods store. Here are a few new AIESEC friends - Rajiv, JJ, and James.
For all of you rioters out West, Geneve is now firmly settled there for all of your full-time rioting needs. She's in LA at the moment but tends to rove up to SF and all over the place. We celebrated her last week in NYC at various rooftop bars....and now we miss her. Take good care of her!
