I’m sure a few of you have heard of the Sound of Music, and it’s, well, let’s say classic and cheesy songs and scenes of
Austria.
Well, when I started to write about Nina I actually thought of the song about the main character, Maria – if you haven’t heard it, it’s a song about someone with an incredibly strong spirit and self.
I’m quoting the lyrics when I say - “How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?”
Well, that’s Nina. (Also known as Neee-naaah.)
I found Nina through my friend, Craig. Craig of Craigslist that is. I posted an unnamed company in the fall of 2004 looking for students and anyone who might want to work on the concept. Nina was a talented flutist and music major who decided against grad school at NYU but nevertheless moved to NYC from Chicago. I was intrigued with the idea of the musician working on the music of cacao - plus she was open and energetic and idealistic - perfect for sweetriot.
I knew early on that Nina was a leader with a great soul. She learns fast, moves fast, and builds relationships quickly too. Nina is also a wonderful friend and family member. That’s why I’m honored to have her as sweetriot’s first ‘employee’ and look forward to all of cacao-mission related work together!

OH DEAR - I'M A LITTLE WORRIED :)
"How do you solve a problem like Maria...
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down...
How do you find a word that means Maria...
A flibbertijibbet, a will o-the wisp, a clown...
Many a thing you know you like to tell her...
Many a thing she ought to understand...
But how do you make her stay?
And listen to all you say?
How do you keep a wave upon the sand?
How do you hold our moonbeam in your hand?"
