So what does one speak about after Hong Kong? Well, South America of course! The Americas is where cacao was 'born' so to speak. History notes that Cortez or Columbus discovered it in Central America in the 1500's although noone knows exactly for sure. What I do know is that it seems to make sense that the origin of cacao is a Latin region due to its warm, engaging, and hospitable nature. After my last trip to South America, I came home with some key phrases, which I actually like to use for sweetriot and my life in general. One is "mi amigo (my friend)." When you meet people in Latin America, they consider you a friend before they judge you or wonder about your intentions. They truly try to take you for face value. In addition, in customer service situations, they say over and over "con mucho gusto (with much pleasure)." What's amazing is I believe they believe it! They are not disgruntled about serving you -- they take pleasure in it. They realize that if they give, they will receive. So, there you have it. It all makes sense - cacao - a pleasurable, giving, and emotional treat grew up in a warm and wonderful region.

You're right... South America is a very warm culture. What I remember about my time there is that everyone seemed optimistic and upbeat... and the Latin music always put you in a good mood and made you feel like dancing... even in the bus on the way to work!
